An Angry Letter to My Father

Dear Dad,

I’m furious at you. Why? Because you taught me all these things that are not at all applicable in today’s world. So many things that you said I must do, but doing them has brought me nothing but misery. I don’t know where to start from. But if I had to, here are a few things that you were totally wrong about.

You said to take care of people and love them unconditionally. I did, and they kept using me until I wasn’t useful to them at all.

You said to take care of people weaker than you. I did. I stopped people from getting bullied, and then those people bullied me when they grew up.

You said always be true to your friends, But most of them backstabbed me. Some even took money and never returned; others insulted me for my weaknesses.

You said to always be there for others. I was, but no one was there when I needed them.

You said to be the bigger person, But I’m tired of being the bigger person, even with people who are much older than me.

I believed in you. I thought that’s how one should be. But the world doesn’t work that way. There’s no love, there’s no kindness. Whatever is left is people leaning on people because they know they’ll help them in the future. It’s all a barter; it’s all business.

Please stop telling me how great the world is, because it’s not.

Your daughter,

Amisha

I mostly write about the way I feel about things.
